Author Mary McCarthy writes, "Everyone continues to be interested in the quest for the self, but what you feel when you're older is that you really must make the self." McCarthy implies that this epic reorientation isn't likely until you've been on earth for at least four decades. Moving forward, your task isn't to find yourself but rather to create yourself.
