What is being mindless?

You know what it’s like to be driving, and suddenly you “come back to attention” and realize some time went by, and you were driving, but you weren’t “paying attention to the road”? It kind of startles you when you get your attention back from being on autopilot. That is being mindless. Your attention is scattered, and your mind is wandering. You are not focused on the task at hand. This happens a lot in life, every day. Unfortunately, living on autopilot and not being mindful can hamper your health and well-being. It can cause stress, illness, depression, weight gain, and a host of scientifically proven health problems. Unless you make an effort to live more mindfully, it is quite easy to get lost in the everyday hecticness of life’s obligations.
