There are many breathing techniques you can use to help calm your mind and body. Try these this week:
Breath Awareness
You can use this breath practice for 5 to 10 minutes during the day. It's also a nice way to begin a longer meditation. Find a comfortable position and relax. As you breathe in say to yourself "I breathe in life." As you exhale say to yourself "I release all that isn't needed." Do this over and over. Gradually you will rest deeper and deeper. You might even forget the words and just bring awareness to your breath.
Counting Breath
For this meditation you will find a comfortable position and relax. Take a natural breath in and then exhale. Upon the exhale, count "one" and then breathe in again. Upon the exhale say "two." For every inhale/exhale cycle you count one number up. Keep counting to the number 10.
Whenever your mind wanders, bring it back to your counting or back to your breath. Whatever your focus is, just bring your mind back that that awareness.
