We all strive for a balanced lifestyle with work and play, relationships and privacy, exercise and rest, a balance of mind, body and spirit. It requires mindfulness.
Life is constantly changing, and to stay balanced we need to be mindful of what's happening in both our external and internal worlds.
“Surfing the never-ending waves of change and challenge that comprise real life, we aim to improve while not judging ourselves for needing it. We can readjust and try again both in mindfulness practice and the rest of life. After all, what can any of us do except pay attention to making skillful choices, work diligently at that which it seems we can influence, and try to be at ease with all the rest.” -- Mark Bertin, M.D.
A good practice is to pause from time to time to do an "audit" of how we're spending our time. In a day or a week or a month, how much time do you devote to yourself vs other people? How much time do you schedule for fun vs work? Is there enough time for a relaxed meal and adequate exercise on a daily basis? What do you feel should be included on your schedule that isn't there now? Or what is there now that you might be ready to give up in favor of something else that represents better life balance?
